habitude

Read-only journal reflection skill with opt-in local Vault MCP setup. Disclosure — after you run the bundled setup and add its local stdio MCP server yourself, the plugin reads Markdown notes from the one Vault directory you name (read-only), keeps its settings in ~/.config/habitude-agent/config.json and a search index in ~/.cache/habitude-agent/ (outside the Hermes profile), and returned journal excerpts are sent to your configured model provider; it makes no network calls of its own.

About

Read-only journal reflection skill with opt-in local Vault MCP setup. Disclosure — after you run the bundled setup and add its local stdio MCP server yourself, the plugin reads Markdown notes from the one Vault directory you name (read-only), keeps its settings in ~/.config/habitude-agent/config.json and a search index in ~/.cache/habitude-agent/ (outside the Hermes profile), and returned journal excerpts are sent to your configured model provider; it makes no network calls of its own.

Habitude for Hermes Agent

English: Use /habitude to search an explicitly connected Habitude / Obsidian Vault and reflect with file and line references. With an opt-in MCP connection, this release exposes four read-only Vault/index tools; it does not write notes, complete habits or sync accounts.

Native Hermes plugin

The native plugin.yaml package registers the bundled skill through the documented ctx.register_skill() interface. Load it as habitude:habitude with skill_view after enabling the plugin. It does not copy skills into another directory, change an existing bare /habitude skill, register tools or hooks, start background work, or connect a Vault during registration.

The plugin version is 0.2.0 and requires Hermes 0.21.6 or newer and Python 3.10+. The readable Vault MCP runtime is included; the Habitude Mac app is not required. The previous 0.1.0 release remains available. The official catalog listing requires a maintainer-reviewed PR; publishing this repository or installing a local copy is not catalog approval.

After the updated public source is available, review its pinned catalog/source revision, then use Hermes' native plugin workflow:

hermes plugins install legott-ai/habitude-agent-integrations/hermes --no-enable
hermes plugins enable habitude

Follow the setup reference with the actual path to habitude/scripts/ inside the installed plugin. An optional skill-only installation is described below; it gives the shorter /habitude command and shares the same read-only MCP connection.

Runtime disclosure

Registering the native plugin reads only its bundled skill. After the user explicitly selects a Vault, acknowledges model context sharing and adds the MCP connection, the local Python helper reads the nonsecret scope file at ~/.config/habitude-agent/config.json and runs the readable Python Vault runtime bundled in this pinned plugin. That runtime reads Markdown under the selected local Vault and maintains a separate disposable search cache. Returned excerpts enter the Hermes conversation and may reach its configured model provider.

The plugin has no network listener, tunnel, model API call, shell-based execution, credential access, telemetry, auto-update mechanism or unattended process of its own. The user-enabled MCP server is a local stdio process managed by Hermes. The package does not include binaries, private app history or personal notes, and does not download a runtime or replace itself.

Install the skill

From this unpacked Hermes package:

python3 install.py --skills-dir "$HOME/.hermes/skills"

The installer copies only this skill's reviewed files to habitude/. An identical installation is left as it is; an existing different installation is preserved and reported as a conflict. It does not edit Hermes settings, select a model, start a provider call, or enable Vault access.

After the public source is published, the same skill can be installed through Hermes' normal scanning pipeline:

hermes skills install legott-ai/habitude-agent-integrations/hermes/habitude

The availability of that public command depends on the repository publication, separately from this local package's validation. Do not use --force to bypass a blocked skill scan.

Hermes discovers skills in its active profile's skills directory. A new session makes /habitude available. If you use a named profile, pass that profile's skills directory instead. This is an independently distributed Habitude skill, not a claim of approval in the Hermes official skills catalog.

Connect your data

Follow the setup reference after selecting the Vault you intend to connect. Its stdio MCP launcher uses the included readable Python Vault runtime; the package does not contain private notes, tokens or the app's full source.

Privacy / 개인정보: files and the index stay local, but excerpts returned to Hermes may be sent to its configured model provider. Installing the skill alone does not connect a Vault. Use a synthetic Vault for testing; do not publish private notes in issues or logs.

Try it

/habitude 연결 상태를 확인해줘
/habitude 이번 주 기록에서 반복된 생각을 근거와 함께 찾아줘
/habitude Find journal notes about my writing routine and cite sources.

Public installation and support: Habitude integrations.

Format and setup sources: Hermes Skills System, Hermes MCP. Skills are on-demand instructions; the separate MCP connection supplies the actual tools. No model call is needed to validate the package or discover its tool schemas.
